The foundations excellent health and fitness ALWAYS start with basics. It can seem silly to talk about, but the basics are often overlooked in the hustle of life.
Breathing - take 100 deep breaths every day.
Deep Breathing should be a part of our everyday life. It not only can lengthen the years that we get to live, but can make us happier, more productive and energetic living them too. Breathing deeply is a well-known stress reliever and has a multitude of health benefits as well. However, in our high stress busy lives, we often breathe very shallowly most of the time. But with a little effort, deep breathing can become an easy and unconscious part of our daily life. By making a conscious decision to focus on our breath for a part of each day, we can make it so that we regularly breathe deeper without having to think about it at all.
Diet - make sure to eat at least 10 different colors of fruits and vegetables daily.
Fruits and vegetables generally contain little fat, cholesterol or sodium and provide complex carbohydrates, fiber and nutrients. Most are low in calories, and they contain natural sugar, as opposed to refined sugar, which can cause abrupt fluctuations in your blood sugar level. Different colors indicate different nutrient profiles, so focus on getting a little of each color in your diet every day to maximize the nutritional benefits
Movement - walking is still the #1 recommended cardiovascular exercise for everyone.
Regular walking, like most aerobic activities, is good for you because cardio-vascular exercise strengthens the heart and lungs, increasing overall fitness. Power-walking - keeping a brisk pace at moderate to high intensity - can burn the same amount of calories as jogging or running. In addition to it's many cardiovascular benefits, movement also enabels the lypahtic system to flush out toxins properly.
Sleep - make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
Sleep makes you feel better, but its importance goes way beyond just boosting your mood or banishing under-eye circles. Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your heart, weight, mind, and more. It allows your body the much needed time to repair and restore, even "reboot" for the brain!
Water - hydro therapy in all uses is recommended (drinking, showering/bathing, ice, steam or soothing foot baths)
Drinking water on an empty stomach purifies the colon, making it easier to absorb nutrients. It increases the production of new blood and muscle cells. Drinking water helps with weight loss, helps to purge toxins and balances the lymph system. Soaking in warm water will quiet and soothe your body. A dip in cold water, in contrast, will stimulate and invigorate. A soothing and relaxing bath can help counteract stress and its many effects on your health. It is the perfect antidote to a hectic and stressful lifestyle.
